MELVILLE, New York — The Harrison Law Group, P.C. announces its strong support for the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act, groundbreaking legislation set to take effect on June 1, 2025. This new law, signed into effect on December 21, 2024, upholds the safety and well-being of warehouse workers across New York State.
The law mandates large employers in warehouse distribution centers with at least 100 employees at a single facility—or 1,000 employees across multiple facilities—to create and implement formal injury reduction programs. The purpose of these programs is to identify and mitigate workplace risks that often lead to musculoskeletal injuries. Employers will be required to conduct detailed worksite evaluations, implement engineering and administrative controls to reduce physical strain, and provide comprehensive injury prevention training to their workforce.
This legislation comes at a critical time. Data reveals that warehouse workers in New York face an injury rate double the national average, with one in nine workers in this sector experiencing on-the-job injuries. The Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act targets this alarming trend, addressing hazards such as repetitive motions, awkward postures, and fast-paced work conditions—common factors contributing to workplace injuries.
Brett J. Harrison, Founder and CEO of The Harrison Law Group, P.C., expressed his support for the law, emphasizing its long-term benefits for workers and their families. “The Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act is a vital step toward protecting the hardworking men and women who keep our supply chains operational. For too long, warehouse workers have labored under hazardous conditions. This legislation provides the safeguards they need—promoting safer work environments and reducing preventable injuries. At The Harrison Law Group, we remain committed to advocating for the rights and safety of all employees. This is a step in the right direction for a fairer and safer New York.”
The law also requires employers to engage qualified ergonomists to assess job tasks, provide solutions to minimize risks, and update their evaluations whenever new processes or risks arise. Workers will participate in these efforts by offering suggestions and insight into addressing workplace hazards—creating a collaborative approach to injury prevention.
With the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act set to go into effect on June 1, 2025, The Harrison Law Group, P.C. encourages workers and employers to familiarize themselves with the law’s requirements to fully comply and create safer conditions moving forward.
